Free Practice (Part 24a of the ZCHRB)

Self-employed professionals – freelancers, consultants, creative professionals – can obtain a residence permit with a special permit from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy of Bulgaria.

📋 Permission from the Ministry of Labor is required. Unlike Digital Nomad, here you work with Bulgarian and foreign clients directly as a self-employed.
Free practice in Bulgaria

Free practice is a status that allows foreigners to legally work in Bulgaria as a self-employed specialist: to provide services to Bulgarian and foreign clients, issue invoices and pay taxes in Bulgaria. This is ideal for consultants, IT professionals, designers, educators, and other professionals.

Unlike company registration (EOOD), free practice is an easier and cheaper way to officially work in Bulgaria. No share capital required, no need to hire employees, minimal bureaucracy. The key difference with Digital Nomad is that you can work with Bulgarian clients.

A prerequisite is to obtain a special permit from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy. After receiving it, you register with the tax authorities as self-employed and receive a residence permit. The average processing time is 3-4 weeks.
