Detailed guide: Bulgarian citizenship step by step
A complete analysis of all paths, documents, deadlines, real examples and typical mistakes
Bulgarian citizenship is a European citizenship that gives full rights as a member of the European Union. This is the final step in the process of moving: from visa D through a residence permit to permanent residence and, finally, to citizenship. By obtaining a Bulgarian passport, you get the right to work, study, live and travel throughout the European Union without restrictions.
There are several ways to obtain citizenship: after 5 years of permanent residence, through Bulgarian origin, through marriage to a Bulgarian citizen, or through naturalization on special grounds. Each path has its own conditions and requirements.
The process of obtaining citizenship takes time - on average 6-12 months, but the result is worth it: a European passport, visa-free travel to 190+ countries around the world and full rights in the EU.
The Bulgarian passport allows you to visit 190+ countries without a visa, including the USA, Canada, Japan, Australia.
