Parents of a Bulgarian citizen or permanent residence holder has the right to obtain a residence permit if there are documents on kinship and proof that the child takes them as dependents.
Residence permit by member. 24, al. 1, vol. 7 of the ZCRB is a residence permit for foreign citizens whose children are Bulgarian citizens or have permanent resident status (permanent residence). This is one of the most humane and family-oriented grounds for legalization in Bulgaria.
The key condition is the confirmation of two facts: documentary kinship with the child and the financial dependence of the parents on him. The child must sign a formal maintenance commitment and prove sufficient income to do so.
The permit is issued for 1 year with the possibility of annual renewal. In case of continuous residence in Bulgaria after 5 years, parents have the right to apply for permanent residence (permanent residence). The average processing time is 3-5 weeks.

Parents of a Bulgarian citizen
Foreign citizens whose child has Bulgarian citizenship – by birth, naturalization or by origin.
Parents of the holder of permanent residence
Foreign citizens whose child lives in Bulgaria on the basis of a permanent residence permit (permanent residence).
Elderly dependent parents
Parents of retirement or pre-retirement age who need the support of a child and want to move closer to their family.

The process of obtaining a residence permit
Consultation and verification of grounds
We check the status of the child – a Bulgarian citizen or a permanent residence permit. We clarify what documents on kinship are already available, what needs to be apostilled and translated. We assess the financial situation of the child to confirm dependency.
Preparation of documents on kinship
We collect the child's birth certificate and, if necessary, other documents confirming the relationship. All foreign documents are apostilled and notarized translated into Bulgarian.
Formalization of a dependency obligation
The child signs a notarized obligation to provide financial support for the parents on the territory of Bulgaria. Documents confirming his income are attached to him - certificates from work, account statements, tax returns.
Collection of personal documents of parents
We prepare a personal package: passport, certificate of no criminal record with apostille and translation, health insurance, documents on the place of residence in Bulgaria (rent or ownership).
Submission to the migration service
We submit a full package of documents to the Migration Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs at the place of residence in Bulgaria. The migration service checks the relationship and the fact of dependency.
Obtaining a residence permit card
After approval, each parent receives a residence permit card for 1 year. Upon annual confirmation of dependency, the permit is extended. After 5 years of continuous residence, the right to permanent residence is granted.

Documents of kinship
Birth certificate of the child with an apostille and a notarized translation into Bulgarian.
Status of the child
A copy of the child's Bulgarian passport or permanent residence card is proof of his/her citizenship or permanent residence in Bulgaria.
Dependency Obligation
A notarized document in which the child undertakes to financially support the parents in Bulgaria.
Proof of the child's income
A certificate of employment, bank statements, or tax returns proving sufficient income to support your parents.
Passport and criminal record certificate
A valid passport of the parent (at least 6 months) and a certificate of no criminal record with an apostille and translation.
Health Insurance & Housing
A policy with coverage of at least 30,000 EUR on the territory of Bulgaria and a lease agreement or property documents.
