Any foreigner who has a disability for health reasons and permanent residence status Bulgaria, can enjoy benefits and privileges according to the information from the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.

To confirm the status of disability (and in fact, obtaining disability for money) in Bulgaria, the following steps must be taken:

• All disability certificates from your country must be legalized.
• Your personal doctor gives a referral for a medical commission (TELK) to confirm disability.
• After the med. the TELK commission will confirm the degree of disability and issue a Decision, you go to the Regional File of Medical Expertise (RCME), register the Decision and put it square printing.
• After that, you (or your authorized representative under a notarized power of attorney) need to contact the Community at your permanent address in Bulgaria, in Regional Committee on Social Work  and on the basis of the Decision of the med. commission, you may be assigned certain benefits.

What kind of privileges and benefits you will receive is decided by this committee. These can be: social services, medical care, etc.

For example, a disabled person can be provided with a wheelchair, walker, hearing aid, medicines and special devices for bedridden patients free of charge. Disabled people use free "vignettes" for personal vehicles, they are compensated for travel on transport in the region where the person lives. Some medicines are provided free of charge. Disabled people are entitled to a subsidy for the development of their own business in the amount of up to BGN 20,000. For those who are sedentary, there is a subsidy of 600 leva for the reconstruction of housing (for the construction of a ramp, for fastening parapets and railings, etc.)

But you will receive a disability pension only in the country where it was assigned.

But! Not all benefits can be received by the applicant. This is individual and depends on the disease and type of disability, and the process itself is quite complex and time-consuming and takes from 2 to 6 months.
