причина отказов в болгарском гражданстве

In the first half of 2017 alone, naturalization was denied to 24 persons who provided false information about themselves – concealed a criminal record, provided false data, etc., this is stated in the report for six months of work, which was distributed by the office of the head of the relevant National Commission – Deputy Prime Minister Iliana Yotova.

In total, 427 applicants were denied citizenship in six months. In addition to the reasons already mentioned, the most common motives were the lack of evidence of Bulgarian origin, prohibition of entry or stay in the EU, lack of knowledge of the Bulgarian language. During the same period, 101 Bulgarian citizens were deprived of the country's passport, the report said. Among the reasons are obtaining citizenship of another state and permanent residence outside Bulgaria.

At the same time, 2618 persons received approval of their applications for citizenship of the Republic of Bulgaria. Another 39 people restored previously lost passports.

The report also shows that refugee status is rarely sought in Bulgaria, and even less often it is obtained. For six months, the commission considered 17 relevant applications – from citizens of Ukraine, stateless persons, as well as immigrants from Afghanistan, Iran, and a number of other countries. 4 applicants were refused, 2 petitions (from citizens of Ukraine and the United States) were not considered due to the "wrong address".

Recall that at the beginning of 2017, the Bulgarian media showed a report, which stated that 114 persons wanted by Interpol received citizenship of the country. After that, Deputy Prime Minister Yotova said that she would not sign decrees on granting citizenship without the conclusions of the experts of the special commission.
