Schengen visa in Bulgaria: you can, but is it necessary?

Шенгенская виза в Болгарии: можно, но нужно ли?

A couple of years ago, Bulgaria's entry into the Schengen area was almost the main argument of brokers selling Bulgarian real estate. But the "rosy dreams" of visa-free travel in the EU with a personal residence permit card (permanent residence, DVR) in Bulgaria are still dreams, which everyone strives to realize in their own way. Someone is content with countries that can be visited with a Bulgarian personal card without a Schengen visa, which we wrote about In this article, someone feels freer with Schengen. Possession RESIDENCE PERMIT (PERMANENT RESIDENCE, DVD) in Bulgaria makes it possible to obtain a Schengen visa on the territory of this country. And this has its undoubted "advantages".

The main one is that there is no need to fly for a Schengen visa or go to its historical homeland, as a rule, thousands of kilometers away. It is enough to cover several hundred km to Sofia, since all foreign embassies are located in the capital. But, before going for a visa, it is important to first contact the embassy of the state whose visa you need to obtain. After all, some representative offices work exclusively by appointment, and, having traveled a long way, you may simply not get an appointment.

Perhaps the main universally recognized "disadvantage" of obtaining by the owners of Residence permit Schengen visa in Bulgaria is that it is much more difficult to get a "long" visa here than, say, in Moscow for a Russian, in Kiev for a Ukrainian, in Astana for a citizen of Kazakhstan or in Minsk for a Belarusian. Therefore, some of our fellow citizens prefer to go to their homeland, get a three-year Schengen visa there and calmly travel from Bulgaria to the Schengen countries. But in principle, if there is no need to travel constantly, then a visa can be obtained in Bulgaria. If you are lucky, it will be given for the duration of the residence permit card.

SAME PRINCIPLES

In all countries and embassies without exception, the meaning of the work of the "visa officer" is the same – he must make sure that the visa applicant does not plan to violate the visa regime of his state. And the task of the visa candidate is to convince him of this. Namely, to provide the maximum amount of evidence that: he has already been on a similar trip and has not violated anything, has a sufficient number of banknotes for the duration of the trip and has a source of livelihood, he has a place to stay, he knows how, when and on what he will enter the country and how, when and on what he will leave it.

This is about general principles and requirements. In detail, depending on the specific country and embassy, the requirements for documents may vary. Here are some practical examples of what documents are needed for holders of a residence permit with different grounds for opening a Schengen visa on the territory of Bulgaria. We remind you that copies of documents are submitted, the originals must be brought with you.
