In the near future, a foreign highly qualified specialist, regardless of profession, will be able to obtain a Bulgarian «Blue Card (SK) – official work permit. This statement was made on September 19, 2017. Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria Valeri Simeonov based on the results of the round table on the topic "Demographic Policy and Labor Mobility". One of the organizers of the event was the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy of the country. The Deputy Prime Minister expressed confidence that the relevant amendments to the Law on the Ministry of Internal Affairs ("Law for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs") developed by the Bulgarian government will be adopted in the very near future.

In particular, they abolish the current list of professions for obtaining a work permit, change the terms of its mandatory renewal from one year to four years, and significantly reduce the cost of obtaining a work permit. After the approval of the relevant proposals, developed jointly by specialists from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Agency for Bulgarians Abroad and the National Agency for Tax Collection, the total cost of issuing the Blue Card will be reduced from BGN 400. up to 250 BGN

In addition, an accelerated procedure is introduced for the issuance of a SC to those nationals of third countries who have been staying in Bulgaria over the past 5 years with "some form of work permit". Also, the issue of transition from the state of short-term employment (90 days) to the form of long-term cooperation – obtaining a 9-month work visa without the need to leave the country. The procedure for obtaining a permit will take 37 days. The Deputy Prime Minister also stressed that first of all, the mentioned changes are designed to stimulate ethnic Bulgarians living on the territory of Ukraine, Moldova and Macedonia.
