Legalization of documents at Bulgarian notaries

On November 28, 2017, the Ministerial Council of Bulgaria adopted Resolution No263 amending the Regulation on legalization, certification and translation of documents. In accordance with these changes, the procedure for legalization of foreign documents in Bulgaria will become simpler.
Now in Bulgaria, the certification of the signature of a translator authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can only be done at the central office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, i.e. the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in Sofia. The cost of certification is 15 BGN. Together with the transfer of documents, the procedure takes a lot of time, which is unprofitable for those who need urgent legalization of papers.
The situation will change on 01.03.2018, when changes will come into force, according to which any of the Bulgarian notaries will be able to legalize foreign documents. This means that translators and their clients will be able to save time that was previously spent on trips to the capital. In addition, certification by a notary will cost only 6 leva.
This measure is designed to facilitate and speed up administrative services for citizens and businesses. Any of the Bulgarian notaries (and there are more than 600 such specialists in the country in 107 cities) will be able to certify translated document.
